Interesting Connection

I have connected with a group of Christian business men on the west side of San Jose who meet on Tuesday nights in the very trendy office building pictured above. It is a place where they look into and discuss the Bible in a non-traditional church setting. They have a young adults group meet in one area of the building and the business men in one of the larger boardrooms.

The owner of this company has begun an outreach to those interested in seeing really what Jesus is all about without all the confusion and tradition that the generations have added to Him. The link to get an idea is www.openhouse.cr if you would like to have a look. It utilizes the speaking of Andy Stanley in english but everything else surrounding the evenings are in spanish. The video is shown each week in a boutique 250 seat capacity theater.

We have talked about partnering with the group of companies represented by these businessmen to help aid the work we are doing with the impoverished areas of Costa Rica. This has been just one of many unique connections we have made here and we look forward to seeing what God may do with it all.

RELIGION IN COSTA RICA

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Religions of Costa Rica, 69% of the country's population of approximately 4.3 million is Roman Catholic. However, it is believed that only about 40% of the populace actually observe Roman Catholic practices and tenets. The rest are only denominationally Catholic and do not practice their professed religion with any serious religious fervor.

Protestant Christians that include members of the Methodist, Baptist, Evangelical, and Episcopal Churches, account for about 14% of the population, while another 12% are atheists. Besides these, there are Seventh Day Adventists and Jehovah's Witnesses who have a marked presence in certain coastal areas. The Seventh Day Adventists even maintain a university, which attracts a large number of students from all over Costa Rica.

For a relatively small country, the number of religions practiced here is quite high due to the many non-Christian religions followed here. Believers in Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Baha'i Faith, Taoism, Hare Krishna, Scientology, Tenrikyo and others have their own temples, mosques, synagogues, pagodas and similar places of worship.
